How to get started
If you've never tried pole, you're in the right place!

Our Intro to Pole classes on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm in Ipswich and Thursdays at 6:15 pm in Colchester are the perfect starting point for new beginners! No need to commit to a course–you can try a single class or access one of our new student 4-class Intro pack offers. If you opt for the single class and decide you want to carry on, you can still purchase the Intro offer! New starters can also try our Pole Dance Fundamentals classes to learn the sexy dance side of pole on Mondays at 6:00 pm in Ipswich and Wednesdays at 7:20 pm in Colchester! Please note that our classes are open to women and LGBTQ+ people of all genders for the comfort and safety of all.

In our beginner classes, we teach you the basic skills you need to get started on your pole journey, including beginner spins, tricks, and dance. After a couple months of pole classes, you’ll likely find that you’re stronger, feeling more confident in your body, and enjoying movement in a way you never have before!

To join a class, simply click the booking button above to find our live calendar on TeamUp. Then look for one of our “Intro to Pole" or "Pole Dance Fundamentals" classes and click to book. If you’d like to take advantage of our Intro offer, use this link or navigate to “Memberships” at the top of the TeamUp site, and then scroll down to find the Ipswich or Colchester Intro Pack.

Additional classes that new beginners can try include:

  • Pole Dance Fundamentals: A beginner-friendly sexy style choreo class

  • Flexibility (Ipswich) or Bend & Balance (Colchester): All levels stretching classes aimed at improving flexibility and working toward goals such as splits, backbends, and balance poses.

It helps to have skin grip when you do pole, so we recommend wearing a sleeveless top and cycle or exercise shorts (with joggers or leggings over if it's cold out). We also ask that you avoid wearing lotion on your hands, arms, and legs before pole class because it makes you slippery! Please also bring socks and a water.

Absolutely not. Pole is for all bodies, regardless of size, age, or current abilities. When you start in our Intro class, you'll be surrounded by other new beginners who probably have similar feelings to you. These worries are common! But no matter how you feel about your body, your abilities, or your age, if you stick with pole, you're likely to see a positive transformation in how you feel about yourself.

One of the best parts about pole is that you get stronger while having fun and you tend to forget you're even exercising. It's very different from staring at the gym clock wondering when your workout will be over! You'll also start to feel more sexy and confident as you learn how to move your body in new ways and begin to appreciate the amazing things it can do. This transformation typically takes place around the 3 month mark of poling consistently.

Our ethos

At Spin & Flow we are a community and we love welcoming new students into our space. We know how nerve-wracking it can be to show up to your first class—we've all been there! But once you're here, we'll do our best to help you feel comfortable and enjoy your time here. Our vibe is friendly, authentic, and of course sexy (but don't let that scare you!). We want our students to feel comfortable and that means creating a space with warm lighting, friendly faces, and full acceptance of our bodies the way they are.

We're happy for you to try pole as a more fun way to get in shape, that's why we started too. But you may find that your reasons for coming evolve with time, as they did for us. We don't focus on our body size, calories, or losing weight—getting stronger is just an added benefit! We pole because we have so much fun doing it and because it brings out the best parts of ourselves (sometimes those parts society tells us to hide). We're here to feel strong, confident, and sexy and we love a woman-led space where we can forget about the outside world and just focus on ourselves! At Spin & Flow, we also honour pole dancing's strip club roots and are grateful to SWers for creating this beautiful art form and paving the way for us.

Our classes are open to all women and LGBTQ+ people of all genders, age 18 and up.
